Follow-Up to Porn Attack

Corrie Ten Boom had stumbled upon a poem that had the word sexsin among its lines.
And so, seated next to Father in the train compartment, I suddenly asked, “Father, what is sexsin?”
He turned to look at me, as he always did when answering a question, but to my surprise he said nothing. At last he stood up, lifted his traveling case from the rack over our heads, and set it on the floor.
“Will you carry if off the train, Corrie?” he said
I stood up and tugged at it. It was crammed with the watches and spare parts he had purchased that morning.
“It’s too heavy,” I said.
“Yes,” he said. “And it would be a pretty poor father who would ask his little girl to carry such a load. It’s the same way, Corrie, with knowledge. Some knowledge is too heavy for children. When you are older and stronger you can bear it. For now you must trust me to carry it for you.”
A Traveler’s Guide To The Kingdom, James Emery White

I know the statistics say that most children will be introduced to porn in some form or fashion by the age of 11 and that if you don’t talk to them about it before then, it’s too late.

The problem is I believe this is too big of a burden for my 7 year old to carry. Or at least it is more a burden than I want her to carry.

What I hope is that she allows me to carry it for her, at least for a while. To trust in me and to trust that I will show her the way. Trust that I will reveal things to her when she is ready to handle the weight of it.

Maybe it will be a mistake to wait. But my prayer is that I will be showing her the way of Christ in my life, my speech and my actions. And that as I teach her to be like Jesus, she will begin to discern for herself what is right and what is wrong.

I’m not saying I will never teach her about the “evils” of the internet. But what I am saying is, let her stay my little girl for a little bit longer.

Let her trust me to show her the way when the time is right.

Let her trust me to carry the burden for her.

How do you think you would handle the situation?
