40 Days of 40

So why do people say they are doing “40 days of lent”? It just means 40 days of 40. Seems kind of redundant.

Anyways, I decided to participate in lent this year. I wanted to give up something hard for me and I wanted to spend more time with God instead. So I gave something up and I read through the Psalms during the 40 days.

During this time I learned a few things about myself.

First, I am completely addicted and reliant on things that don’t matter.

Second, I am not as strong as I think I am.

Third, I am stronger than I think I am.

Fourth, after 40 days your mentality and your physicality change; and you develop new habits, mainly good.

Fifth, replacing the same amount of time with God as you did either participating in or thinking about your habit, completely makes a difference in the way you see the world.

I’m a fan of lent. Can’t wait till next year.

What have you learned about yourself lately?
