I don’t often promote books. But every once in a while a book comes along that needs to be shared with the world. A book that takes you on a journey, in which at the end you will never be the same. At the end of it you will have been transformed.
A Traveler’s Guide To The Kingdom by James Emery White is such a book. The author is a journeyman. I feel a kindred spirit with him. I love to travel and throughout his book he takes us to a different location and as he is telling the history, he describes the location with such beautiful words that you feel like you are there with him.
As well as a physical journey, Mr. White takes us on a spiritual journey. Starting at a very basic understanding of where we came from, to our desire to know our Creator, to following Him, trusting Him and living out a life pleasing to Him. And He leaves us with the understanding that it is okay to doubt; that doubt is all part of the journey.
One of the most impacting parts of the book is when the author discusses the concept of clarity vs. trust. He talks about a conversation a man had with Mother Teresa, where she told him that he was holding on to clarity and needed to let go and just trust God. This spoke to me in so any ways.
I am a vision-caster. I am a dreamer. I like to think to the future, of what could be. But sometimes in doing that I get to a place where I need to KNOW the future. I forget to live in the moment, today. I forget to let go of NEEDING clarity and realize all I NEED is to trust God. There is a freedom in that letting go.
A Traveler’s Guide To The Kingdom is a book for anyone who wants to find themselves on a journey to a better more fulfilled life.
