I heard a surgeon say, “We don’t practice till we can do it right. We practice till we can’t do it wrong.”
This got me thinking about our lives in Jesus, as disciples, as followers.
So often we find Jesus and we strive to look like him, act like him and talk like him. Then, once we have accomplished the task once (maybe twice), we are done.
Maybe we feel justified having done a good deed. Maybe we feel that our attempt was good enough. Maybe we feel we have accomplished the task once to look like Jesus, so we have arrived.
The thing is, becoming like Jesus is not a one-time event. It is a continual journey that takes a lifetime to complete. It is a journey filled with ups and down. It is a journey filled with pain and beauty. It is a journey we do together as followers of Jesus, and Jesus journeys with us.
We don’t strive to be like Jesus till we do it right. We strive to be like Jesus till we can’t do it wrong.
